Chairman of Tutu Group and lifestyle entrepreneur, Mr Desmond James, popularly known as Tutu of Abuja, has been appointed as an ECOWAS Youth Ambassador.
This was disclosed in an appointment letter dated Sunday, January 24, 2021 and signed by the President of ECOWAS Youth Council (EYC).
The letter reads in part, “I am pleased to confirm that the board of the West African (ECOWAS) Youth Council on the recommendation of her young people has appointed you as an ECOWAS YOUTH AMBASSADOR.”
According to the chairman of EYC, the appointment is connected to the commendable effort of new ambassador in service to humanity and entrepreneurship promotion.
“This appointment is not unconnected with your laudable antecedents of dedication, hard work, and diligence in the area of service to humanity and your commendable work as an advocate and relentless crusader of promoting entrepreneurship for African Youths”.
The serial entrepreneur also received the Nelson Mandela leadership Award of Excellence and Integrity from the Presidency of West African Youth Council (WAYC) for his ECOWAS Youth ambassadorial role.
The award was in recognition of his impact as an entrepreneur and as a passionate philanthropist.
“In lieu of your great work as a young entrepreneur of good note, Your achievements in youth empowerment and development with your passion for excellence has been exceptional. We recognize your commendable efforts for humanity as a philanthropist”.
Speaking with News Digest on this 4-year ambassadorial role, Tutu of Abuja, expressed his delight and relay his plans for as an ECOWAS Youth Ambassador.
“For a young mind, I was very happy about the appointment, and it is going to help my career.
“It is an office, but there is no termination to my personality, what success we achieve is going to continue, even after I complete my tenure.
“Basically, I want to focus on youth sensitization, a lot of youth are capable of doing things, but they lack information. I want to work on the sector of information, to give them access to a lot of things like tutorials, course, scholarships, seminars among others.
“Things that won’t cost too much but it would help them harness their visions. Many things are happening in the economy, but it only hangs amongst the elites. And you know knowledge is power.”
